An asbestos survey is an inspection of a building to identify any materials containing asbestos. The survey aims to locate, identify, and assess the condition of any asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) in the building, as well as their accessibility and potential risk to human health. There are three main types of asbestos surveys:

• Management Survey: The purpose of this survey is to locate the presence and identify the extent, condition, and type of ACMs that could be damaged, disturbed, or pose a risk during normal occupancy, maintenance or minor building works.
• Refurbishment and Demolition Survey: This survey is more intrusive and is required when the building or part of it is undergoing major refurbishment or demolition. It aims to locate all ACMs that are likely to be disturbed during the work, assess their condition, and recommend appropriate control measures.
• Type 3 (Full Access) Survey: This survey is the most comprehensive of all. It includes the management and demolition/refurbishment survey plus allows full access to the areas where contamination is suspected to exist. This survey is primarily conducted for assessing the safety of the building occupants, employees on the premises, or any contractors on-site.
