An asbestos survey is a comprehensive inspection of a property to identify the location, type and condition of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs). The survey includes sampling and analysis of suspected ACMs to determine whether they pose a risk to health and require removal.

There are two types of asbestos surveys: management survey and refurbishment/demolition survey.

• Management survey: This type of survey is intended to locate, sample and assess the condition of ACMs that could be disturbed during normal occupancy or maintenance of a building.

• Refurbishment/demolition survey: This type of survey is required before any refurbishment or demolition work, as it aims to identify all ACMs that could be disturbed during such activities.
