An asbestos survey is a comprehensive inspection of a property to identify any materials that may contain asbestos. There are two types of asbestos surveys: management surveys and refurbishment/demolition surveys.

A management survey is the standard survey that is required by law to be conducted regularly in all commercial and non-domestic properties. The survey aims to identify any asbestos-containing materials in the building, assess their condition, and recommend suitable management plans to ensure that occupants are not exposed to the dangerous fibers.

On the other hand, a refurbishment/demolition survey is carried out before any refurbishment or demolition works. The survey aims to identify any materials that may contain asbestos that could be disturbed during the works. The survey is intrusive and involves taking samples of suspected asbestos-containing materials to determine their asbestos content.
