An asbestos survey is a comprehensive inspection of a property to identify any asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) present within it. The survey provides critical information about the type, location, and condition of the ACMs, which helps determine the risk they pose to human health. Depending on the type of property and the purpose of the survey, there are three main types of asbestos surveys:

• Management surveys: These surveys are intended to locate, identify and assess the condition of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) that could be disturbed during normal occupancy or during routine maintenance work, for example, by pointing out the location of boilers, pipes, and heating systems which may have asbestos present.

• Refurbishment surveys: These surveys are necessary before any renovation or refurbishment work is carried out on the property. The survey will identify any ACMs that could be disturbed by the planned works, and the refurbishment or demolition can continue without risking the health of the people within the premises.

• Demolition surveys: These surveys involve the survey of a building or structure when it is going to be entirely destroyed. The survey team will locate and sample all the materials, ensuring full compliance.
