An asbestos survey is a comprehensive inspection of a building to identify any asbestos-containing materials that might be present. The purpose of an asbestos survey is to assess the type, quantity, location, and condition of any asbestos-containing materials in a building.

There are three types of asbestos surveys: Management Survey, Refurbishment Survey, and Demolition Survey.

• Management Survey: This survey is conducted to identify any asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) that might be present in a building. The purpose of the survey is to manage the risks associated with the materials, and to take steps to prevent exposure to asbestos. A Management survey is required for all non-domestic properties built before 2000.

• Refurbishment Survey: This survey is carried out before refurbishment or demolition work takes place. The purpose of the survey is to identify any ACMs that might be disturbed during the refurbishment or demolition work. This type of survey is more intrusive than a Management Survey.

• Demolition Survey: This survey is carried out before demolition work takes place. The purpose of the survey is to identify any ACMs that might be present in the building that will be demolished. This type of survey is the most intrusive of the three.
