An asbestos survey is a detailed inspection of a property or building to locate and identify any materials containing asbestos. It is a legal requirement under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 for building owners and managers to have an asbestos survey carried out, and to manage any asbestos found in the property to prevent it from causing harm to anyone who may come into contact with it.

There are two types of asbestos surveys - management surveys and refurbishment/demolition surveys. A management survey is a non-intrusive survey designed to locate and record the presence and condition of any asbestos-containing materials that could be damaged or disturbed during normal occupancy, maintenance, repairs, or cleaning.

A refurbishment/demolition survey is a more intrusive survey designed to locate all asbestos-containing materials within a building or structure that could be disturbed during refurbishment or demolition works. This survey is required before any refurbishment or demolition works take place.
