Asbestos was widely used in the construction industry until the late 1990s. It is present in many older buildings in Uplyme and can pose a serious health risk if disturbed. For this reason, all properties undergoing refurbishment or demolition must undergo an asbestos survey to identify any potential asbestos-containing materials (ACMs).

ACMs can be found in many areas, from insulation and ceiling tiles to flooring and roofing materials. If these materials are disturbed, the asbestos fibers can be released into the air and breathed in, causing lung cancer, mesothelioma, and asbestosis.

An asbestos survey is the only way to identify the presence of ACMs and develop a suitable management plan to ensure the safety of everyone involved in the project.
