An asbestos survey is a systematic inspection of a buildings structure and materials to determine the presence, location, and condition of any ACMs. The survey is carried out by trained and qualified asbestos surveyors who use specialized equipment and techniques to identify the presence of asbestos.

There are two types of asbestos survey: Management surveys and Refurbishment/Demolition surveys.

• Management surveys: These surveys are designed to identify the presence and condition of ACMs that could be damaged or disturbed during normal occupancy, maintenance, or other routine activities. Management surveys are required for all non-domestic buildings constructed prior to the year 2000.

• Refurbishment and Demolition surveys: These surveys are required when a building is undergoing major refurbishment or demolition works. The aim of these surveys is to identify any ACMs that may be disturbed during the works and assess the risks posed by them.
