Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was once commonly used in the construction industry due to its strength and heat-resistant properties. This is why it is required by law to carry out an asbestos survey before any refurbishment or demolition work is done on a building that was built before 2000. An asbestos survey involves identifying the presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) within a building and assessing their condition. Based on this assessment, the management of asbestos can be carried out in a safe and controlled manner.
