An asbestos survey is a detailed inspection of a property to identify any asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) that may be present. Since asbestos fibers can be released into the air when these materials are disturbed, it's essential to identify and safely manage any ACMs before work begins.

There are three types of asbestos survey:

• Management survey: This is a non-intrusive survey designed to locate any ACMs that may be damaged or disturbed during normal occupancy of a building. Any ACMs identified are assessed to determine their condition and the risk they pose.

• Refurbishment/demolition survey: This is a more intrusive survey designed to locate all ACMs in a building that may be disturbed during refurbishment or demolition work. A refurbishment/demolition survey is required before any such work can begin.

• Combined survey: This is a combination of the management survey and the refurbishment/demolition survey, and is often carried out in older buildings that have undergone some refurbishment or alteration work in the past.
