Asbestos is a naturally occurring fibrous mineral which has been widely used in construction and several other industries as it can withstand heat, fire, and chemicals. Regrettably, asbestos exposure can cause a number of severe lung conditions, including a rare cancer called mesothelioma. Mesothelioma generally takes decades to manifest and is often diagnosed in the disease's late stages. Asbestos should be tested for and eliminated from structures for safety reasons.
