Affordable Asbestos Removal Devon

As a homeowner or business owner in Devon, it's natural to have concerns about asbestos removal. One of the most common questions we get asked is whether a licence is required to remove asbestos from a property. In this article, we'll break down the regulations and provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision.

Asbestos is a group of naturally occurring minerals that were widely used in construction materials, including roofing, insulation, and flooring, until the 1990s. While it was once thought to be a miracle material, we now know that asbestos is highly toxic and can cause serious health problems, including lung cancer and mesothelioma. As a result, the UK government has implemented strict regulations to control the use and removal of asbestos.

In the UK, the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 require that anyone who intends to remove asbestos from a property must hold a licence issued by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). However, there are some exceptions to this rule. If the asbestos is in a non-friable state, meaning it's not easily broken or damaged, and it's not being disturbed or removed, then a licence may not be required. Additionally, if the asbestos is being removed from a domestic property and the homeowner is doing the work themselves, a licence is not required.

While it may be tempting to try to remove asbestos yourself, it's highly recommended that you hire a licensed asbestos removal company to do the job.
