Affordable Asbestos Removal Devon

If you're a homeowner in Devon, you might be wondering if the council is responsible for removing your asbestos roof. The answer is, it depends on the circumstances. In the UK, the council is not automatically responsible for asbestos removal, but they may be able to provide guidance and assistance in certain situations.

Asbestos is a hazardous material that was widely used in building construction, including roofing, until the 1990s. It contains tiny fibres that can be released into the air when the material is damaged or disturbed, posing a serious health risk to anyone who inhales them. Asbestos is a known carcinogen, and prolonged exposure can lead to serious health problems, including lung cancer and mesothelioma.

In Devon, the council may be responsible for asbestos removal in certain situations, such as:

• If the asbestos is on council-owned property, such as a council house or a public building.
• If the asbestos is causing a hazard to public health, such as if it's damaged or deteriorating and releasing fibres into the air.
• If the asbestos is part of a larger regeneration or redevelopment project, and the council is involved in the project.

If you have an asbestos roof in Devon, it's essential to take steps to ensure your safety and the safety of others. Here are some steps you can take:

• Contact a licensed asbestos removal company, such as 1st Choice Asbestos, to assess the condition of your roof and provide guidance on the best course of action.
• Do not attempt to remove the asbestos yourself, as this can be extremely hazardous and may lead to serious health problems.
• Consider replacing your asbestos roof with a safer, more modern material, such as plastic or metal tiles.
