Affordable Asbestos Removal Devon

As a homeowner or business owner in Devon, it's natural to have concerns about asbestos in your building. Asbestos was once a widely used material in construction, but its dangers have since been well-documented. In this article, we'll explore when building regulations removed asbestos in Devon and what it means for you.

Asbestos was commonly used in building materials in the UK from the 1950s to the 1980s. It was prized for its fire-resistant and insulating properties, and was often used in roofing, ceilings, and walls. However, as the dangers of asbestos became more widely known, the UK government began to take action. In 1985, the UK banned the use of blue and brown asbestos, and in 1999, the use of all types of asbestos was prohibited.

In Devon, building regulations are enforced by the local council. The council is responsible for ensuring that all new buildings and renovations meet strict safety standards, including those related to asbestos. If you're planning to renovate or demolish a building in Devon, you'll need to comply with the local council's regulations regarding asbestos removal.

If your building was constructed before the year 2000, it's likely that it contains asbestos. However, not all asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) pose a risk to health. If the ACMs are in good condition and are not likely to be disturbed, they may not need to be removed. However, if you're planning to renovate or demolish your building, it's essential to have a survey carried out to identify any ACMs and determine the best course of action.
