Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was widely used in construction materials until the 1980s. Despite being banned in many countries, including the UK, it can still be found in many buildings constructed prior to this time. Asbestos is especially dangerous when it is disturbed or deteriorating, as it can release tiny fibres into the air that, when inhaled, can cause serious health problems such as lung cancer, mesothelioma, and asbestosis.
